In
1948 Puerto Vallarta was known as "Puerto
Las Peñas".
It was a quiet Pueblo with a small population.
People walked along the beach area, now known as
the Malecon. There were many warehouses owned by
the locals overlooking the beach. They stored corn,
seeds and coconut oil and exported these items
in large ships that docked off the main street.
The regional commerce areas in this era were Puerto
Vallarta, San Sebastian, Talpa and Mascota.
In 1948 Mr.
Salvador Gonzalez, a man with great business
vision, noticed that trading merchants
traveling large distances, including families
that visited Puerto Vallarta had no lodging possibilities.
He built the first Hotel in Puerto Vallarta
and named it Hotel Rosita. The Hotel is located
near the business district. Also across the street
the Malecon starts where you'll find great restaurants,
retails stores and recreational beach areas.
A ten minute
walk will lead you to the main church, municipal
offices and Puerto Vallarta's market place. Hotel
Rosita is considered the most traditional hotel
in Puerto Vallarta and considered a
jewel due to its typical mexican architecture.
In 1962 John
Houston, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and
Eva Gardner and their the entire filming crew
stayed at the Hotel Rosita. It is truly a number
one Hotel. It offers the ambience and hopitality
of how life was once enjoyed in Puerto Vallarta.
